Seat Arona Diesel Engine Power Loss and Smoke

I am writing to seek some advice regarding my Seat Arona, built in 2020, with a diesel engine. It currently has 96661 km on the clock. Recently, I have observed a noticeable reduction in engine power, accompanied by smoke emitting from the exhaust system when accelerating. From my understanding, these symptoms suggest a potential issue with the diesel particulate filter. I would greatly appreciate any insights or suggestions on how to address this problem.

That sounds very similar to an issue I had with my Seat Arona. It presented with similar symptoms: reduced engine power and noticeable smoke during acceleration. Considering the mileage, it certainly points towards a problem with the diesel filter. Have you noticed any changes in fuel efficiency lately? A clogged or defective DPF can significantly impact fuel consumption. Also, have you tried DPF cleaning? I ask because that solved my problem for a while. The process involves using specialized chemical cleaners to dissolve the accumulated soot and ash within the diesel filter. However, if the filter is severely damaged, DPF cleaning might not be sufficient, and filter replacement might become necessary.

Thank you for your response! I have indeed noticed a decrease in fuel efficiency. I haven't tried DPF cleaning yet. Could you please elaborate on the process you undertook? What kind of chemical cleaners did you use, and how long did the cleaning process take?

While DPF cleaning can sometimes resolve minor blockages, the fact that you're experiencing reduced power and smoke, especially with that mileage, suggests the issue is beyond a simple clog. The chemical cleaners used in DPF cleaning are designed to dissolve soot and ash buildup. The process usually involves injecting the cleaner directly into the DPF and then running the engine to burn off the dissolved particles. However, given the severity of your symptoms and the potential for irreversible damage to the diesel filter, I would strongly advise against attempting a DIY cleaning. It's best to take your Arona to a reputable workshop for a professional diagnosis and filter replacement if necessary. Ignoring the problem could lead to further damage to the exhaust system and increased repair costs.

I wanted to share the outcome. Following your advice, I took my Arona to a trusted workshop. After a thorough inspection, they confirmed the diesel particulate filter was indeed defective and needed filter replacement. The exhaust system was also checked to ensure no further issues existed. The total cost amounted to 1550€. The engine now runs smoothly, and the smoke is gone. I appreciate your help in diagnosing the problem!
