Seat Arona Gearbox Issues

I'm experiencing some concerning issues with my 2021 Seat Arona. It's a gasoline engine model, and I've clocked about 175606 km. Lately, the gearbox has been slipping and the shifts feel unclean. I suspect it might be related to oil wear in the transfer case, possibly even defective gears. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? What could be the root cause, and how urgent is this?

Summary of the thread

A 2021 Seat Arona owner reported issues with the gearbox slipping and unclean shifts, suspecting oil wear in the transfer case or defective gears as potential causes. It was suggested to check the transfer fluid level, as low or contaminated fluid could lead to shifting problems. The owner took the vehicle to a workshop, where oil wear and defective gears were confirmed as the issues, and after repair, the gearbox functioned smoothly again.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Slipping gears on a 2021 Arona isn't good news, especially at that mileage. I had a similar issue on my old Vauxhall Insignia, though it was a different gearbox entirely. Have you checked the transfer fluid level? Low or contaminated transfer fluid can definitely cause shifting problems. An oil change might be a good first step.

Thanks for the reply. I haven't checked the transfer fluid level myself, to be honest. I'm not entirely sure where the transfer case is located on this model. Where is it usually located, and is checking the fluid something I could do myself without special tools?

Okay, if you're not comfortable checking the fluid yourself, it's best to leave it to a professional. Based on what you're describing and the mileage, a defective transfer case is a strong possibility. My Insignia ended up needing a full transfer case replacement. Given the symptoms, I recommend taking it to a reputable workshop for a proper diagnosis and potential repair. They can confirm the oil wear and check those gears.

Just wanted to let you know I took your advice and brought it in. You were spot on! The workshop confirmed the oil wear fault in the transfer case. Defective gears were indeed the likely culprit. The transfer fluid was pretty contaminated. Cost me 330€ for the repair, but now it shifts smoothly again. Thanks a bunch for your help!
