Seat Arona Heavy Steering and Vibration
Summary of the thread
The conversation revolves around a 2019 Seat Arona experiencing heavy steering and intense vibration, suspected to be caused by a faulty steering angle sensor. The issue was confirmed through a VCDS scan, which flagged the sensor as defective. The suggested solution was to replace and recalibrate the sensor, which resolved the problem, restoring proper steering and alignment.

Thanks for the quick reply! I scanned it with VCDS, and it flagged the steering angle sensor as faulty. You mentioned a CAN bus issue – what should I be looking for there? Is it related to the sensor failure?

If VCDS is pointing directly at the steering angle sensor, that's likely the problem. The CAN bus was just a thought, as sometimes sensor failures can be related to communication issues. But if the sensor is throwing a direct error, replacing it and properly calibrating it to the ESP/traction control is best. I'd take it to a workshop with experience in recalibrating those systems after a sensor replacement, to avoid messing up the alignment or the electronic stability!

Thanks so much for the help! The workshop confirmed the steering angle sensor was defective. They replaced it and recalibrated the electronic stability and traction control. The whole job cost 195€. It drives perfectly now, and the alignment is spot on.

That sounds unpleasant! I had a similar issue with my Seat Arona, although with a different engine. The shaking and heavy steering are familiar. Have you checked the error codes using VCDS or something similar? It could also be a CAN bus issue. A faulty sensor can really mess with the electronic stability program. Is your traction control light on as well?
