Seat Arona remote locking and starting issues

I'm experiencing a weird issue with my 2019 Seat Arona with a gasoline engine. It has 172686 km on the clock. I'm getting an error stored in the error memory. The remote unlocking and locking no longer works properly, and I can no longer start the engine without the key in the ignition lock. A workshop suggested it might be a problem with the bumper antenna, possibly a defective cable or plug connection. Could this really be the cause? Has anyone experienced something similar with the vehicle antenna, car radio, or an antenna mount problem? Any ideas about antenna replacement or antenna repair?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Seat Arona with 172,686 km was experiencing issues with remote locking and starting, suspected to be related to the vehicle's antenna system. A workshop suggested the problem might be due to a defective cable or plug connection in the bumper antenna. After further investigation and repair, it was confirmed that the issue was indeed a faulty cable/plug connection, which was fixed, resolving the problem.

That's a strange set of symptoms for a 2019 Arona! The fact that unlocking and locking are affected, along with the engine start issue, does point towards something related to the vehicle antenna system. Since you have an error stored, have you had the error code read? Knowing the specific code would definitely help narrow down the possibilities. Also, are you sure the issue is with the bumper antenna specifically, and not the car radio antenna on the roof, or the one integrated into the rear window if your model has one? Have you checked the connections to the antenna amplifier? It's usually located near the antenna base.

Thanks for the quick response! I haven't been able to read the error code myself, unfortunately. I only know there's one stored because the workshop mentioned it during a quick check. As for the antenna type, I'm honestly not 100% sure which one is causing the problem. The workshop said something about the bumper antenna, but I didn't get all the details. Where exactly would I find the antenna amplifier, and how would I check the connections? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to car electrics, so any guidance would be appreciated.

Given that the workshop mentioned the bumper antenna, and the symptoms you're describing, it does seem like a likely culprit. The central locking system, remote start or lack thereof, and potentially even some aspects of the immobilizer system can rely on signals received by the vehicle antenna. Without knowing the specific error code, it's tough to say for sure, but a defective cable or plug connection on the bumper antenna could definitely cause these issues. Regarding the antenna amplifier location, it varies depending on the exact Arona model and trim level. It's often located near the base of the antenna, either behind the bumper or inside the rear quarter panel. Honestly, if you're not comfortable working with car electrics, I'd recommend taking it back to the workshop to get a proper diagnosis and repair. It sounds like they're already on the right track, and if it's just a cable or plug issue, the antenna repair shouldn't be too expensive.

Took the Arona to the workshop. They checked the vehicle antenna and you were spot on! It was indeed a defective cable/plug connection. They repaired it, and the total cost was 95€. Everything is working as it should now. Thanks again for your help!
