Seat Arona starting problem

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm not very good with car electrics, so could you tell me exactly which fuse I should be looking for? Also, what does it mean if the dashboard lights are flickering? And the engine is completely dead, it doesn't even try to crank.

Right, if the engine isn't cranking at all and the dashboard lights are acting up, that reinforces the fuse theory even more. Your owner's manual should have a fuse diagram, and it'll likely be labeled something like 'Ignition Switch,' 'Engine Management,' or 'Starting System.' It's often a lower amperage fuse (10A or 15A). Flickering lights suggest a voltage drop, further hinting at a short circuit blowing the fuse. If the fuse is indeed blown and you replace it, and it blows again immediately, then you definitely have a short circuit somewhere, and you should take it to a mechanic. But if it starts fine with a new fuse, that might be all it was. You should also check for any corrosion or damage around the ignition switch wiring itself if the fuse keeps blowing. If you're uncomfortable doing any of this, it's always best to get a professional to take a look but it sounds like a defective fuse. I remember having a similar starting issue on my old car, and it turned out to be the ignition switch, but that was after checking all the fuses first.

You were spot on! I checked the fuses like you said, and one related to the ignition was blown. Replaced it for just 52€, and the Arona is starting perfectly now. No more stalling or rough running. Seriously, thanks a lot for your help. Saved me a trip to the garage and a hefty bill!

Sounds like a frustrating starting issue! From your description, it does point towards something electrical, possibly related to the ignition switch circuit. The fact that you're seeing issues with the dashboard lights alongside the engine problems is a key symptom. First thing to check, before diving deep, is to locate the fuse box (check your owner's manual for its exact location) and inspect the fuses related to the ignition system. A blown fuse could cause all the symptoms you describe. Do the dashboard lights dim or flicker when you try to start? Does the engine crank at all, or is it just dead?
