Seat Arona sunshade problem

I have a 2018 Seat Arona with a diesel engine. The car sunshade seems to have developed a mind of its own. It no longer retracts or extends as it should and is now stuck in one position. I have also noticed an error message stored in the error memory. From what I have gathered, the likely culprit is a defective motor. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with their car interior, and if so, what was the sunshade repair process like? I have been quoted around 330€ a hefty price for a bit of sun protection!

Oh, I know this problem all too well! I have a Seat Arona too, and faced a very similar issue with my car sunshade a while back. The symptoms you described are spot on getting stuck, making weird noises... It was quite annoying, especially on sunny days. Did you notice any clicking sounds before it completely failed?

That’s incredibly helpful to know! Was the failure sudden, or did you experience any warning signs beforehand? Also, did replacing the whole unit solve the problem completely, or did you run into any further issues with the car interior?

Yes, the failure was preceded by some stuttering and unusual noises, just like a worn-out clock winding down. Replacing the entire unit, like for like, completely resolved the issue for me. It’s been working flawlessly ever since. Given the error message you're seeing, it's almost certainly the motor. I'd recommend going to the workshop; they will probably tell you the same, and attempting a DIY sunshade repair on this can be a real headache. Think of it like a faulty window visor you want it working perfectly, not half-fixed!

Thank you for sharing your experience It sounds like we had identical issues. I took my Seat Arona to the workshop, and as you predicted, the sunblind motor was indeed defective. It cost me 330€ to get it fixed. I appreciate your advice it saved me a lot of time and potential misdiagnosis!
