Seat Arosa Automatic Gearbox Issue

Fluid changes? To be honest, I'm not sure. Bought the car a few years back and haven't touched the gearbox. Is there a chance it's just low on fluid, or are we definitely looking at a new transmission control unit?

Okay, given the symptoms and the error code, it does sound like a defective transmission control. Electronic issues with automotive ECUs are common. While a fluid change might help in some minor cases, the grinding and emergency mode point towards something more serious. It's unlikely just low fluid. Best bet is a proper transmission diagnosis at a trusted workshop to confirm, but prepare for the possibility of needing a new transmission control unit. Save some money!

Cheers for the help! Took it to a local garage, and they confirmed the transmission control unit was toast. New unit fitted, cost me about 1000€, and the Arosa is shifting smoothly again. Nightmare over!

Ouch, sounds rough! Slipping gears and grinding noises are never a good sign with an automatic gearbox. Has the transmission fluid been changed regularly? When was the last time you did a transmission diagnosis? Old fluid can cause electronic issues and wreak havoc with the transmission control.
