Seat Arosa automatic transmission trouble

I'm at my wit's end with my 2002 Seat Arosa! It's got a gasoline engine. The automatic transmission is going bonkers! Feels like the clutch is totally shot. It slips, shifts uncleanly, and makes these horrible grinding noises when it finally does shift. Plus, the check engine light and the transmission indicator light are on! I'm afraid that the automatic transmission converter is defective. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Whoa, sounds rough! I had a similar issue with my Seat Ibiza (same brand, you know?). It was acting up with the auto transmission, and the garage kept saying it was just a glitch. Is it throwing any codes?

Codes? Yes! The check engine light and the transmission indicator light are both on. The error memory has something stored, but I haven't a clue what it means. What kind of codes did yours throw? And what ended up being the actual problem?

Yep, sounds like the torque converter to me. Mine was slipping like crazy and making a racket. The codes pointed to the torque converter lock-up clutch being defective. Seriously, get it checked by a workshop that knows automatic gearboxes; it's not a fun DIY job.

Wow, you nailed it! Took it to the workshop, and after a thorough check, they confirmed the torque converter is indeed kaput. 2120€ for a full transmission repair. Ouch! Thanks for the heads-up; at least I knew what I was in for.
