Seat Arosa Brake Light Issue

I'm having an issue with my 2001 Seat Arosa, with a Gasoline engine. The vehicle has approximately 55734 km on the clock. The problem is the brake lights. They aren't working right, and I'm getting an error message and an error is stored in the error memory. I think the brake light switch might be faulty. Has anyone else had similar brake system, automotive switch, or electrical issues related to the brake pedal and vehicle safety?

Summary of the thread

The issue with the 2001 Seat Arosa was that the brake lights were not functioning correctly, accompanied by an error message and a stored error in the error memory. The suspected cause was a faulty brake light switch. After checking and reseating the switch, the brake lights began working properly, the error message disappeared, and the error memory was cleared, resolving the problem without any cost.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Arosa a while back. The brake lights were acting up, and the infotainment was throwing a fit. Have you checked the brake light switch itself? It's a common culprit. Give it a wiggle, see if that changes anything. I remember a friend of mine had a similar thing happen on his old Polo and he fixed it by replacing the whole brake system. Do you get any other errors or weird behavior?

Thanks for the quick response! I did check the switch, but I didn't do much more than glance at it. When you say 'wiggle,' do you mean just physically jiggling it, or is there something more specific I should be looking for? Also, do you recall if you had to replace the switch, or did it just need adjustment? I have already checked the error memory and the only error is related to the brake system.

Yeah, by 'wiggle' I meant just giving it a gentle jiggle. Sometimes they just get a bit stuck. I would advise you to go to the workshop. In my case, it was just a matter of reseating it properly. But, given the error message and all, it might be worth getting a professional to take a look. They can properly diagnose if it is just the switch or something deeper in the electrical system. Good luck!

Just to let you know, the problem was the brake light switch. I took out the old switch and looked it over for damage. I put it back in, made sure it was in properly, and now the brake lights work, the error is gone, and the error memory is clear. Total cost: 0€ Thanks again for the pointer!
