Seat Arosa cold start issue

My 2001 Seat Arosa (gasoline engine) is giving me grief on cold starts. Engine runs rough for the first few minutes, and it's a pain to get it going. Suspect the cold start injector is the culprit. Anyone dealt with this before? I'm thinking it's either a defective injection valve or a more general fuel delivery problem.

I experienced similar cold start problems with my old Opel Corsa. It turned out to be a faulty fuel injection system. 'Fuel injection' is simply the process of delivering fuel to the engine. Have you inspected the fuel pressure regulator? A malfunctioning one can cause issues with fuel delivery, particularly during cold starts.

Fuel pressure regulator, right. Where exactly is that located, and is it something I could test myself? I've got a multimeter and a decent set of tools. Also, what were the exact symptoms with your Corsa?

Yes, the fuel pressure regulator. Usually, it is located on the fuel rail. Testing it yourself might be a bit tricky without specialized tools. In my Corsa, the symptoms were quite similar: hard starting, poor engine running when cold, and generally bad fuel economy. Given your symptoms and the injector suspicion, I would advise taking it to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis. It could save you time and potential further issues.

It was the cold start injector. Replacement cost 515€. Runs like new now, even on these chilly mornings. Thanks for the advice!
