Seat Arosa Diesel Battery Issue

I am experiencing a battery issue with my 2002 Seat Arosa, diesel engine. The battery is heavily discharged, resulting in an error message in the speedometer, weak lights, an error stored in the error memory, and a weak start. Based on my initial assessment, the battery sensor is likely defective. I would appreciate insights into this matter.

Summary of the thread

The 2002 Seat Arosa with a diesel engine experienced a heavily discharged battery, resulting in error messages, weak lights, and starting issues. The initial assessment suggested a defective battery sensor as the cause. After checking the battery terminals and confirming they were clean and tight, it was recommended to measure the resting voltage, which should be around 12.6 volts for a healthy battery. Ultimately, a workshop confirmed the defective sensor, replaced it, and resolved the issue.

A heavily discharged battery in a 2002 Seat Arosa with a diesel engine, accompanied by those symptoms, does indeed point towards a potential issue with the battery sensor. Have you checked the battery terminals for corrosion or looseness? Also, what is the resting voltage of the battery after it has been sitting overnight?

I have inspected the battery terminals and they appear clean and properly tightened. Regarding the resting voltage, can you elaborate on the expected value I should be looking for? I am not sure about the typical voltage range for a healthy battery in this context.

Given your description and the troubleshooting steps you have already undertaken, a defective battery sensor is a highly probable cause for the discharged battery. A healthy battery should register around 12.6 volts. Given the age of the vehicle and the diagnostic information, I recommend taking it to a workshop for proper diagnosis and sensor replacement.

Following your advice, I took the Arosa to a local workshop. Diagnostics confirmed a defective battery sensor. The sensor was replaced, and the error memory cleared. The total cost was 315€. Thank you for your assistance in diagnosing this issue.
