Seat Arosa Diesel Engine Problems

Hey, I'm having some serious issues with my 2001 Seat Arosa, diesel engine, with 146215 km on the clock. Lately, the fuel consumption has gone through the roof! Plus, the engine stalls at idle sometimes, which is super annoying. And to top it all off, the check engine light is on. Oh, and there's some smoke coming out when I accelerate. I'm guessing it might be related to the mass air flow (LMM) meter affecting the air-fuel ratio, but I'm not really sure. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Sounds like a faulty mass air flow meter (MAF). I had a similar issue with my Arosa. High fuel consumption, rough idle, and the check engine light. Have you checked the air filter? A dirty filter can sometimes contribute to MAF sensor problems.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did check the air filter, it seemed ok, not brand new but not completely clogged either. Was your Arosa showing the same symptoms, like the smoke on acceleration? And did replacing the MAF solve all the issues?

Yes, the smoke was definitely a symptom for me too. Replacing the MAF sorted everything out. Although, I would recommend getting it checked by a professional mechanic to be 100% sure before replacing any parts.

Took your advice and went to the workshop. It was the mass air flow sensor, just like you said! Cost me 365€ to get it fixed, but the car is running smoothly again. No more smoke, the engine doesn't stall, and the check engine light is finally off. Thanks a bunch for your help!
