Seat Arosa Diesel Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
The Seat Arosa's diesel engine was stalling at idle, with the engine light on, suggesting an issue with the EVAP system. The problem was suspected to be caused by blocked tank ventilation hoses. After taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the hoses were clogged, and replacing them resolved the issue, turning off the engine light.

Thanks for the quick reply! The gas cap seems fine, it clicks when I tighten it. And to answer your question, I haven't really noticed a difference in performance whether the tank is full or nearly empty. You mentioned the EVAP system – is there a pressure sensor involved that could be faulty, or is it definitely pointing towards blocked hoses?

A faulty pressure sensor is possible, but given the age of your Arosa and the symptoms you describe, clogged tank ventilation hoses are a very probable cause. Blocked hoses can prevent the system from venting properly, creating pressure issues. While you could try to inspect and clean the hoses yourself, I would recommend taking it to a workshop. They will have the tools and experience to properly diagnose and repair the EVAP system. Is that something you would consider?

Just wanted to let you know that you nailed it. I took my Arosa to the workshop, and they found that the tank ventilation hoses were completely clogged. They replaced the hoses and did some other checks, and the engine light is finally off. Total cost was around 175€. Thanks a million for your help!

That sounds like a tricky situation. Since the engine light is on and the engine stalls, especially at idle, it's likely related to the EVAP system. Have you checked the gas cap to make sure it's properly sealed? A loose gas cap can sometimes trigger these symptoms. Also, does the car run better with a full tank of gas versus an almost empty tank?
