Seat Arosa Diesel Gearbox Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Seat Arosa diesel is experiencing gearbox issues, with symptoms of slipping and unclean shifting, possibly due to transfer case problems or oil wear. Grinding noises, especially when shifting into 3rd gear, suggest gear wear in the transfer case. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected at a workshop to prevent further damage, which was confirmed as the cause and resolved with a repair costing around 330€, resulting in smooth gear shifts.

Gear grinding sometimes, yeah, especially going into 3rd. Did yours do that too? How was it resolved?

Yep, grinding in 3rd sounds like what I had. It's probably gear wear in the transfer case. I’d suggest getting it checked out at a workshop. It's not a cheap fix but better than a complete gearbox failure later.

Thanks! I took it to a shop, and you were right. The transfer case was the culprit, with pretty bad gear wear. It cost me around 330€, but the shifts are smooth again.

Hmm, that sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Arosa. Is it making any gear grinding noises?
