Seat Arosa diesel gearbox slipping
Summary of the thread
The Seat Arosa is experiencing gearbox slipping and shifting issues, suspected to be related to limp mode. Possible causes include a faulty transfer case or issues with the control module. It was suggested that intermittent ABS system faults could be affecting the gearbox, leading to limp mode. The solution involved diagnosing and fixing a dodgy connection to the ABS control module, which resolved the issue without any cost.

ABS system fault codes, you say? That's interesting. I did have some ABS warnings pop up a while back, but they seemed to clear themselves. Could that really be the root cause, even if the ABS light isn't on now? And would that really cause the transfer case to go into limp mode?

Intermittent ABS issues can definitely wreak havoc. The control module might be misinterpreting signals, and that can cascade into other systems. The transfer case itself might be fine. Given the ABS history, I'd suggest getting it properly diagnosed. A workshop should be able to read any stored fault codes and pinpoint the problem. It's better to be safe than sorry, especially with gearbox issues.

I wanted to say thanks for your help. After some digging and advice, it was a dodgy connection to the ABS control module. Cleaned it, cleared the fault codes, and it's running great. No limp mode, and the gears are shifting smoothly again! Cost me nothing but time.

Limp mode on a Seat Arosa sounds rough. I had similar issues with my old Volvo – though it was the gearbox control module playing up. Any fault codes showing up relating to the ABS system? That can trigger consequential faults that mess with the torque converter and cause the gearbox to slip into limp home mode.
