Seat Arosa Diesel Ignition Problem

I've got a 2000 Seat Arosa with a diesel engine and about 121918 km on the clock that's giving me grief. I'm having a car ignition problem, with the engine intermittently failing to start. Sometimes it will start, then randomly shut off while driving, or run really rough. I'm suspecting it could be a fuse, but I'm not sure which one to check or if there are other common issues with the Arosa's starting system. Any ideas?

That sounds awfully familiar! I had almost precisely the same drama with my old Vauxhall Corsa. The symptoms were so alike! Engine refusing to start intermittently, then cutting out at the most inopportune moments, and a generally unhappy sounding engine when it did deign to run. Have you had the car electronics checked? I'm no expert, but it sounds suspiciously like an ignition coil issue. Has the ignition key itself been checked for damage?

Interesting. When you say ignition coil issue, what exactly was wrong with your Corsa? I mean, was it a complete failure, or something more subtle? I'm wondering if that's the path I should be exploring. How did you diagnose your starting issue?

Right, so with my Corsa, it was a gradual decline. Eventually, the car just flat out refused to start one morning. The mechanic ran a diagnostic and confirmed the ignition coil was faulty. Given your description, it might be worth getting a professional to check the car ignition and electronics before you start replacing parts. It could save you a lot of time and money in the long run.

Took it to a local auto electrician. Turns out it was indeed a defective fuse related to the car ignition system. Replacement cost me 52€. Thanks for the advice; you were spot on!
