Seat Arosa Diesel Intake Manifold Flap Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Seat Arosa diesel is experiencing issues with the intake manifold flap control, leading to engine power loss, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and increased fuel consumption. The problem is suspected to be a defective switch or a faulty sensor affecting the flap's operation. A professional diagnosis confirmed the intake manifold flap control as the culprit, and after repair, the vehicle's performance returned to normal.

Diagnostic codes? I don't have the equipment for that. And yeah, the hissing gets louder as I accelerate. Where exactly should I be looking on the air intake?

Without the diagnostic codes it is tricky. Given the hissing gets louder and you're experiencing reduced power, it really does sound like an air intake issue linked to that manifold flap. I'm no mechanic but with my Astra I ended up taking it to a workshop, as it was beyond my limited skills. They confirmed the flap control was the culprit. Best to get a professional opinion before you start replacing parts.

It was indeed the intake manifold flap control. Cost me 465€ to get it sorted. Runs like new now though, so thanks a bunch for the advice!

That sounds awfully similar to a problem I had with my old Vauxhall Astra, though yours is a Seat Arosa and a diesel to boot. I had serious engine misfire and a noticeable loss of power. Check the air intake system thoroughly. Have you tried checking the diagnostic codes? Sometimes a faulty sensor can cause the flap to malfunction. Does the hissing sound change with engine RPM?
