Seat Arosa electrical issues
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Seat Arosa with a gasoline engine is experiencing overvoltage issues, leading to multiple system failures and a weak battery during engine start. The problem is suspected to be a heavily discharged or defective battery. It is suggested to check the alternator, as a faulty regulator can cause overvoltage by sending power surges through the car's electronics. Ultimately, the issue was confirmed to be a heavily discharged battery, which was resolved by replacing it.

I have not checked the alternator. Would a failing alternator cause the car ECU to report overvoltage? I thought a bad alternator would cause undervoltage.

Yes, a failing alternator can definitely cause overvoltage, especially if the regulator is faulty. It can send power surges through the car electronics. Best get it checked out properly at a workshop before it fries something expensive like the ECU.

I appreciate the help. The workshop confirmed it was a heavily discharged battery causing the overvoltage and electrical malfunctions. New battery and checkup cost 290€.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my Arosa. Loads of weird errors popping up. Have you checked the alternator?
