Seat Arosa engine stalls at idle
Summary of the thread
The 2000 Seat Arosa experienced engine stalling at idle, reduced power, and decreased fuel efficiency, with the check engine light on. The problem was suspected to be a defective fuel regulator, especially after an error entry following a fuel filter change. The solution involved replacing the fuel regulator, which resolved the issue, restoring the car's performance.

I haven't checked the fuel pressure sensor readings yet, I don't have the equipment for that. Regarding the fuel pump, is there an easy way to check if it's functioning correctly before I go buying a new fuel regulator? The Arosa starts normally. It only stalls at idle when the engine is warm.

The fact that it starts normally makes a faulty fuel pump less likely. The fuel regulator is the more probable culprit, especially with that error entry. The fuel regulator maintains optimal fuel pressure. Ignoring the pressure sensor data, given the history, I'd advise checking the regulator first. If replacing it doesn't resolve the issue, visiting a workshop for proper diagnostics might be the next step.

It was the fuel regulator. I replaced it myself for 45€. The car runs like new now. The error entry after changing the fuel filter probably caused the issue. Thanks again for the help!

The symptoms you describe, especially the rough idle and reduced power, strongly point towards a fuel delivery issue. The fuel regulator ensures the correct pressure is maintained in the fuel rail. Have you checked the fuel pressure sensor readings? In my experience with Arosas, a faulty fuel pump can also mimic these symptoms, though the error entry after filter change does suggest fuel regulator. Is your Arosa struggling to start?
