Seat Arosa idle problems

Alright, I'm officially losing it with my 2004 Seat Arosa. It's got a gasoline engine and about 145387 km on the clock. The check engine light is on, and I scanned it – shows something about the idle air control valve. The car idle is awful, and the engine keeps stalling at idle, especially when the engine is warm. Anyone seen this before?

Summary of the thread

The 2004 Seat Arosa is experiencing idle problems, with the check engine light indicating an issue with the idle air control (IAC) valve. The symptoms include rough idling and engine stalling, particularly when warm. The likely causes are a dirty throttle body or a faulty IAC valve. Cleaning the throttle body and IAC valve is suggested as a potential solution, but professional diagnosis and repair may be necessary if the problem persists.

Sounds like an IAC valve issue for sure. Had similar probs with my old Vauxhall Corsa. Check engine light, rough idle, and stalling at lights? Mine was the IAC valve acting up due to a dirty throttle body. Have you tried cleaning the throttle body and the IAC valve itself? Might be worth a shot before replacing parts. When the engine is cold, does the idle speed go up?

Throttle body I can do, but IAC valve... where is that thing even hiding on my Arosa?

Yeah, on the Corsa, the IAC valve was attached to the throttle body. Since you're saying the engine is stalling and the error memory points to the IAC valve, my guess is that it's either faulty or just really dirty. You could try looking for a tutorial online for your specific Arosa engine. But honestly, based on what you're saying, it might be heavily contaminated. I'd probably bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and clean everything or replace the valve if needed.

You were totally right! Took it to the shop, and they said the intake was gunked up and the IAC valve was toast. Cost me 425€, but she's purring like a kitten now. Thanks a bunch for the help!
