Seat Arosa immobilizer issue

My 2003 Seat Arosa with a gasoline engine is exhibiting a frustrating immobilizer fault. The mileage is at 165163 km. The engine either doesn't start at all, or starts briefly then cuts out. Error memory shows an immobilizer related error. My suspicion is incorrect key programming, could this be the case?

Immobilizer fault on an Arosa? That's a classic! Are you absolutely sure it's not just a flat battery in the key fob? Have you tried the spare key?

Key battery is new, and I've tried the spare. Same issue. Is there anything else I should check before assuming it's a key programming problem?

Sounds like you've covered the basics. Given the symptoms and error codes, plus you've tried both keys, it's highly likely to be a key signal issue requiring key programming. Best get it checked at a workshop with the appropriate car electronics diagnostics.

Got the key reprogrammed as suspected. Cost me 45€. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
