Seat Arosa oil pressure warning light

I have a Seat Arosa, build year 2001, with a gasoline engine. The oil pressure warning lamp lights up, and I suspect oil contamination. The warning light in the speedometer is on. Could exceeding the maintenance interval be the cause?

Oil contamination can manifest in several ways. What does the oil color look like? Are you losing oil, indicating a possible oil leak? Excessive oil additives might also skew results. Have you checked the PCV valve?

The oil appears dark, almost black. I have not noticed any oil leak on the ground where I park. What does the PCV valve have to do with this?

Dark oil indicates breakdown and reduced lubrication. The PCV valve, if faulty, can cause crankcase pressure, leading to oil contamination. Given the symptoms, I'd recommend a workshop visit to prevent potential engine damage.

I appreciate the insights. The workshop confirmed oil contamination because the maintenance interval was exceeded. An oil change and new filter cost 165€. Hopefully no engine damage occurred.
