Seat Arosa running lean diagnosis
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Seat Arosa is experiencing issues with running lean, indicated by a check engine light, reduced engine power, rough idle, and jerking during acceleration. Initial checks on spark plugs and the EGR valve showed no obvious problems. The conversation suggests potential causes such as clogged fuel injectors or a vacuum leak around the intake manifold. Ultimately, the problem was diagnosed as faulty fuel injectors, which were replaced, resolving the issue.

Vacuum leaks, got it. So, your Arosa had the same jerking under acceleration? Was it consistent, or only under certain conditions? Also, were your spark plugs fouled when you checked them?

Yep, the jerking was almost always there when accelerating. Made driving a pain. I didn't check the plugs myself. Honestly, after poking around a bit, I just took it to the shop. They ran diagnostics and confirmed it. Could be other things, but the injectors are a prime suspect. Like a clogged artery, they'll starve the engine of fuel.

Right, that's what I figured. Took it to the shop, turns out fuel injectors were shot. 515€ later and it's running smooth again. Thanks for the heads up, saved me a lot of headaches!

Sounds like what happened with my Arosa. I'd check the fuel injectors first. Had similar symptoms, rough running and loss of power. Did you check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold?
