Seat Arosa smoking and DPF issues

I've got a problem with my 2000 Seat Arosa. It's a gasoline engine. The warning light in the speedometer is on. When I accelerate, it smokes a bit. Also, the garage says the DPF regeneration isn't working. They think it's the exhaust back pressure sensor. Could this be the cause? Messing with the exhaust system?

Sounds like a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor to me. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane. Same symptoms: warning light, smoke, and the car felt sluggish. Could be messing with your emission control and engine performance. Does it feel like it's lost some power?

Interesting, thanks! Lost power, yes a little bit. How did you figure out it was the exhaust back pressure sensor on your Megane? And did you replace it yourself?

I didn't replace it myself, I'm not that skilled with auto repair. Took it to a workshop. They diagnosed it pretty quickly. If your garage suspects the back pressure sensor, it's probably a good idea to get it checked or replaced. Could save you headaches down the line with emission control.

I took the Arosa to the shop. The exhaust back pressure sensor was indeed faulty. Replacement cost 245€. The warning light is gone, and the smoke is no more. Thanks again for your help!
