Seat Arosa Temperature Sensor Issue

My 2003 Seat Arosa with a diesel engine is showing a temperature sensor heat exchanger defective error. It's stored in the error memory, there's an error message on the speedometer, and the air conditioning won't switch on! Does it sound like a defective temperature sensor? I suspect it's related to the heat exchanger, but could the air conditioning control unit also be defective?

That sounds familiar. Did you notice any issues with the engine cooling, or any signs of a coolant leak? I remember that error code being a real nuisance, and the A/C wouldn't turn on. I'm not an expert, but could it be something as straightforward as a sensor calibration issue?

Interesting. The engine cooling seemed okay, and I didn't see any coolant leaks. But now that you mention it, could a gradual coolant loss be the cause? And regarding 'sensor calibration', is that something I can check myself, or is it best left to a workshop?

A slight coolant loss could be a factor, even if it's not immediately obvious. As for the sensor calibration, I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you're confident. I took mine to a workshop, and they fixed it. It might be worth getting a professional opinion before you start taking things apart, it could save time and trouble.

Just to close the loop, I went ahead and authorized the repair. It set me back 980€, which isn't ideal, but the A/C is working perfectly now. The shop confirmed the temperature sensor on the heat exchanger was faulty and had damaged the A/C control unit. Thanks for the input!
