Seat Ateca Airbag Warning Light Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Seat Ateca owner reported a persistent airbag warning light, suspecting a defective cable or plug connection within the airbag system. A responder suggested checking the resistance of the airbag sensor circuits and inspecting the wiring harness for damage, particularly under the seats and within the steering column. The owner later confirmed that a faulty connector under the driver's seat was identified and fixed at a workshop, resolving the issue.

I don't have a VCDS, but I can probably borrow one. Where exactly should I be looking for these cable connections? Are there any specific areas that are more prone to this kind of issue?

Without a diagnostic scan, it's difficult to say definitively, but based on experience, connectors under the seats (for the side airbags) and within the steering column are common culprits for connection issues due to movement and wear. Given the potential safety implications of a faulty SRS, and without the proper diagnostic equipment, I'd advise taking it to a workshop with experience in airbag repair to properly diagnose and fix the issue. Vehicle safety is paramount when dealing with airbag systems.

Took it to the shop as advised. A connector under the driver's seat for the airbag system was faulty. They cleaned the contacts and secured the connection. SRS light is now off. Total cost was 95€, so all good. Thanks for the help!

The SRS light illuminating usually indicates a problem within the Supplemental Restraint System. Given your Ateca's mileage and the symptoms you describe, a defective cable or plug connection sounds plausible. Have you tried checking the resistance of the airbag sensor circuits? A high resistance reading could pinpoint the faulty connection. Also, inspect the wiring harness for any visible damage or corrosion. Do you have access to a VCDS or similar diagnostic tool to read the specific fault code?
