Seat Ateca Diesel Automatic Transmission Issue

I'm officially stumped. My 2021 Seat Ateca with a diesel engine is giving me grief. It's got 118197 km on the clock, and the check engine light and transmission indicator light are both on. I'm getting gearbox slips, unclean shifts, and even some grinding noises when it shifts. The error memory points to a defective automatic transmission converter. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Is a converter failure really the likely cause?

Sounds like a torque converter clutch problem in your auto transmission. Is the engine surge noticeable, especially when the transmission is supposed to lock up around 60-80 kmh? I had similar issues with my old car. Check engine light, slippage, the whole shebang.

Engine surge is there, especially at higher speeds, now that you mention it. What exactly happens when the torque converter fails? Is it a complete transmission replacement job or can they fix just the converter?

Converter failure is pretty common. It sounds like the torque converter clutch is slipping. They can replace just the converter, but it's a specialized job. I'd recommend getting it checked by a reputable workshop to confirm the diagnosis and get a proper quote. Don't delay; driving it like that can cause more damage.

Thanks. I took it to a trusted mechanic and you were spot on. The torque converter was toast. Cost me 2120€ to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly now. Appreciate the help!
