Seat Ateca Diesel Automatic Transmission Problem

I'm experiencing a perplexing issue with my 2020 Seat Ateca diesel. The gear shift indicator in the instrument panel is malfunctioning. It's impossible to engage the gears sometimes, and the automatic transmission behaves erratically. There are grinding noises when shifting. The digital display in the speedometer doesn't show the selected gear. An error code is stored. I've read it could be a defective control unit. Has anyone encountered this? I'm estimating around 1000€ for repair. Any thoughts before I commit?

Sounds like the exact problem I had with my Ateca. I remember the gear selection display going haywire. Does it feel like the gearbox is slipping too?

Slipping is hard to say, but it definitely doesn't feel smooth. The gear changes are jerky. Is that what you experienced?

Yep, jerky is a good way to describe it. Mine was exactly the same. If it's throwing up errors and the display is gone, it's almost certainly the control unit. Best get it checked out at a workshop.

Took it to the garage and they confirmed the control unit was faulty. Cost me about 1000€ to replace, but at least it's fixed. Thanks for your help.
