Seat Ateca Diesel Emission Control Problem
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Seat Ateca diesel with approximately 99,961 km is experiencing an emission control system warning, reduced engine power, smoke during acceleration, and a strong exhaust smell. The issue is suspected to be related to the diesel particulate filter (DPF) due to low exhaust pressure. It is suggested that a defective exhaust back pressure sensor might be causing these DPF issues. A diagnostic test confirmed the faulty sensor, which was replaced, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick response! I don't know the exact reading. Where would I find that?

The reading would be from a diagnostic tool. If you have a way to read diagnostic codes, it should show a value for exhaust back pressure. But if you're experiencing reduced power and those symptoms, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. A faulty sensor can cause the car to not perform DPF regeneration, which can lead to further problems.

Turns out you were right, it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. The workshop confirmed it with a diagnostic test. They replaced it, and the error is gone. The total cost was 245€, including the sensor and labor. Thanks for the help!

Sounds like DPF issues. I had similar reduced power and a strong exhaust smell with my old Vauxhall Astra. Do you know what the exhaust back pressure reading is?
