Seat Ateca Diesel Engine Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Seat Ateca with a diesel engine is experiencing issues such as a check engine light, reduced power, smoke during acceleration, rough running, higher fuel consumption, and jerking. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the EGR valve, which recirculates exhaust gases to reduce emissions. A defective EGR valve can cause a vacuum leak, leading to these issues. The recommended solution is to have the EGR valve checked and possibly replaced by a mechanic.

Yes, there is a loud hissing when accelerating! What exactly does the EGR valve do, and is it connected to the vacuum leak I read about online?

The EGR valve recirculates exhaust gases back into the engine to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. A defective valve can cause all sorts of problems. The hissing sound probably means there is a vacuum leak due to the faulty EGR valve. I suggest you visit a workshop soon.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I took it to a local mechanic, and they confirmed it was indeed the EGR valve. The automotive repair cost was 355€. Hopefully, this resolves all the issues with vehicle emissions, and it will pass the emissions test now.

Sounds very familiar! I had a similar issue with my Ateca. Reduced engine power and the check engine light were the first things I noticed. Was there any hissing sound when accelerating? That's what really gave it away for me.
