Seat Ateca Diesel Engine Trouble

Hoping someone can help. My 2017 Seat Ateca with a diesel engine is giving me headaches. It has about 88670 km on the clock. The check engine light popped on a few days ago, and now the engine stalls at idle sometimes. Also, the power seems reduced, especially when accelerating. I suspect it might be related to fuel injection since my gut feeling tells me something is amiss with the fuel regulator. Has anyone experienced something similar? Any ideas on what to check before I take it to a mechanic?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Seat Ateca with a diesel engine is experiencing issues such as the check engine light turning on, engine stalling at idle, and reduced power during acceleration. The suspected cause is a problem with the fuel injection system, particularly the fuel regulator. A similar case suggested that the high-pressure fuel pump might be failing, leading to the regulator's malfunction. It is advised to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to prevent further damage.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Ateca. Check engine light, stalling, and power loss. The fuel regulator is a common problem. Have you noticed any drop in fuel efficiency or any unusual noises?

Thanks for the quick response! Fuel efficiency has definitely taken a hit recently; I'm filling up more often. Now that you mention it, there's also a slight whining sound sometimes, mostly when the engine is cold. Was that the same for you?

Yep, the whining sound is a big clue. It's most likely the high pressure fuel pump failing, which then puts extra strain on the fuel regulator. Given the symptoms and mileage, I'd say get it checked by a professional ASAP. Continuing to drive it could cause more damage.

Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. They confirmed it's the fuel volume regulator. Apparently, the high pressure pump is also on its way out, which they say caused the regulator to fail. Repair cost is going to be around 1510€. Thanks again for your help!
