I have not tried to reset the codes. Could incorrect coding really be the cause, and how would I confirm that?

Yes, incorrect coding can definitely cause this. My issue was the same. I couldn't confirm it myself, so I took it to a workshop. They ran their diagnostic scanner and confirmed the control module needed recoding. Best to get it checked professionally.

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Peugeot a while back. The malfunction indicator was on and the diagnostic scanner showed a fault code. Did you try to reset codes with engine diagnostics tools?
