Seat Ateca Key Battery Issue

My 2018 Seat Ateca with a gasoline engine is displaying a 'key battery low' warning. The mileage is at 69026 km. Keyless access is no longer functioning, an error is stored in the error memory, and unlocking/locking is unreliable. I suspect the key fob battery is the issue. Has anyone experienced similar problems?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Seat Ateca owner experienced a 'key battery low' warning, leading to unreliable keyless access and an error stored in the memory. The suspected cause was a depleted key fob battery. It was suggested to replace the battery, typically a CR2032, and check if the error clears automatically. After replacing the battery, the keyless entry functioned properly again, and the error was resolved.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

The low battery warning, coupled with the keyless access failure, strongly suggests the key fob battery is the culprit. Have you tried using your spare car key to see if the issue persists? Also, could you check the battery voltage with a multimeter if you have one available? Low voltage can certainly trigger those symptoms and error codes.

I do not have a multimeter available at the moment. Is there a specific type of battery required for the car key of my Ateca? Also, will replacing the battery clear the error code, or does that require diagnostics?

Yes, it is very likely the low battery in the key fob. A CR2032 battery is commonly used, but it's best to confirm in your owner's manual or by inspecting the old battery before purchasing a replacement. Regarding the error code, it might clear automatically after replacing the battery, but a diagnostic scan might be necessary if it persists. If replacing the battery doesn't resolve the issue, a visit to a workshop may be required to investigate further. However, this is unusual.

As suspected, it was the key battery. I replaced it myself for 37€. Keyless entry is working again, and the error is cleared. Thanks for the confirmation and advice!
