Seat Ateca Oil Pressure Warning and Engine Noise

My 2023 Seat Ateca with a gasoline engine is giving me headaches. I've got about 78039 km on it, and the oil pressure warning light keeps coming on. To make matters worse, there's this horrible loud mechanical noise coming from the engine. Could this be a sign that the oil pump is failing? I haven't noticed any leaks, and the oil level seems fine. I'm really worried about damaging the engine bearings!

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Seat Ateca owner experienced an oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noise from the engine, raising concerns about potential engine damage. The issue was suspected to be a failing oil pump, despite no visible oil leaks and normal oil levels. A suggestion was made to check the oil pressure sensor and oil filter, but the noise indicated a more serious problem. Ultimately, a workshop confirmed the oil pump failure, and after replacement, the vehicle returned to normal operation.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds nasty. I had something similar happen with my Ateca a while back. Did you check the oil pressure sensor? And what about the oil filter, could it be clogged? Also, what oil viscosity are you running?

Thanks for the quick reply! How did you figure out it was the oil pump in your case? And what kind of mechanical noises were you hearing?

Yeah, the oil pressure sensor can be faulty, but the noise is what worries me. My noise was like a bad rattling sound, especially when the engine was cold. Turned out the oil pump was on its way out, not providing enough pressure, especially with thicker oil when cold. Get it checked at a workshop before you do any more damage. Low oil pressure can destroy your engine in no time.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I took it to the shop, and you were right. They confirmed the oil pump was failing. Total cost was 755€, but at least my Ateca is running smoothly again!
