Seat Ateca problems (2018) with the engine, engine indicator light keeps coming on
(Translated from German)
Summary of the thread
The 2016 Seat Ateca is experiencing issues such as black smoke from the exhaust when accelerating, the check engine light being on, loss of power, an exhaust leak, and a strong exhaust odor. The owner suspects a malfunction in the exhaust aftertreatment system. A fellow Seat owner suggested that the problem might be a faulty lambda sensor, which was the cause of similar symptoms in their car. They recommended having the lambda sensor and possibly the catalytic converter checked at a garage.

Hey, thanks for your answer! My Ateca currently has 109876 km on the clock. There are no other symptoms at the moment, apart from those mentioned. I'll have the lambda sensor checked at the garage, maybe it's the same problem. LG

Hey, no problem, you're welcome! 109876 km is already a decent figure, so something can go wrong with the exhaust gas aftertreatment. I think it's definitely a good idea to have the lambda sensor checked. If it really is the problem, it can usually be fixed quickly. Just to add: In my case, the defective lambda sensor was also the reason for the strong exhaust odor and the exhaust leak, as it meant that the mixture in the engine was no longer properly regulated. If nothing is found in your workshop, it could also be the catalytic converter that is damaged. In any case, it's worth having a proper check before you drive any further. Hope this helps you! LG

Hey, thanks for the detailed information! Then I'll definitely visit the garage next and have the lambda sensor and possibly the catalytic converter checked. I hope it's nothing too expensive. Have a nice day! LG

Hello, I have a Seat Ateca petrol 2016 (92000 km) since July regularly only when I am in low gear, I have lights that begin to illuminate then the car jams before stopping completely, I can restart by waiting several minutes (the more it happens and the less it restarts easily). The first garage to repair it said it was the ignition coil, which was changed, but I still have the problem. I've also changed all the spark plugs, but no change. It's now in a Seat garage, the problem being that they can't reproduce the fault and so can't find the source of the problem. Do you have any ideas?

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2018 Seat Leon. I have some experience with cars, but I'm not an expert. In my case it was a defective lambda sensor. The symptoms were similar: black smoke, check engine light and loss of power. I took my car to the garage and the diagnosis was quickly clear: one of the lambda sensors was faulty. The costs amounted to 375.00 euros. The precise troubleshooting and replacement of the lambda sensor solved the problem, and since then my car has been running perfectly again. It would be helpful if you could provide some more information about your car, e.g. mileage and whether you are experiencing any other symptoms. Then I might be able to help you in more detail. LG
