Seat Ateca smoking and warning light
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Seat Ateca with a gasoline engine is experiencing a warning light and smoke during acceleration, with DPF regeneration not possible. The suspected cause is a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor. It is suggested to check the sensor for damage or loose connections and use an OBD2 scanner to monitor exhaust back pressure readings. Replacing the sensor resolved the issue.

When you had the same problem, did you also try forcing a DPF regeneration cycle or did you go directly to replacing the pressure sensor?

I did try forcing a DPF regeneration first, but it failed to complete, likely due to the inaccurate readings from the defective pressure sensor. I would recommend visiting a repair shop as soon as possible. Driving with a faulty sensor can negatively impact vehicle emissions and lead to further engine performance degradation. Don't ignore the back pressure issue.

Replaced the exhaust back pressure sensor. Problem solved. Cost me 245€. Thanks for the input.

I also drive a Seat Ateca and had very similar symptoms a few months ago. The warning light on the dashboard, reduced engine performance, and visible smoke during acceleration were all present. DPF regeneration was also impossible. The root cause analysis pointed towards a faulty exhaust pressure sensor. Have you checked the sensor itself for any visible damage or loose connections? Also, it is important to use an OBD2 scanner that supports live data to monitor the exhaust back pressure readings to make a diagnosis.
