Seat Ateca starting issue

Okay, I'm officially losing my mind! My 2017 Seat Ateca with a gasoline engine has decided it doesn't want to start anymore. Keeps throwing an 'engine control malfunction' error. I'm terrified it's an ECU issue or something Fuel injection related. Anyone else experience this? I've checked the basics (fuel, etc.), but no luck. Really hoping it's not a full-blown ECU failure!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Ateca a while back. Engine stalling out of nowhere, check engine light blazing... drove me nuts! Have you checked the battery connections? Seems silly, but a bad connection can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems, especially with modern cars and their sensitive electronics.

Battery connections, huh? I hadn't really thought of that. Where exactly should I be looking? I'm not the most mechanically inclined, but I can usually manage simple things. Is there anything specific to look for besides obvious corrosion?

Yeah, definitely check the battery terminals first. Make sure they're clean and tight. If that doesn't fix it, honestly, I'd take it to a workshop. These modern cars are so complex, and a faulty connection can mimic all sorts of serious problems, including ECU issues. Better safe than sorry, especially with potential Engine stalling or Fuel injection problems. Could save you a fortune in the long run!

Just wanted to close this. You were spot on! Took it to a workshop, and they found the battery cable connections were corroded. Cleaned them up, and she's purring like a kitten again. Cost me 155€, but worth it to avoid a potential ECU failure down the road. Thanks again for the help!
