Seat Cordoba AC Woes

I'm officially losing it with my 2008 Seat Cordoba. It's got a gasoline engine and about 164892 km on the clock. The AC compressor seems to have totally given up the ghost. I've got an error code stored, the AC doesn't cool at all, the whole system won't even switch on, and there's a warning light from the speedometer. My mechanic thinks it's a defective AC control unit, which is going to cost a fortune to fix! Could this really be it? I'm thinking it could be related to auto refrigerant or a vehicle HVAC issue. Is there anything else I should check before I start tearing apart the dashboard for the AC compressor? This whole auto AC repair thing is stressing me out!

Sounds similar to what happened with my Seat Ibiza. The AC just quit, and there was a weird light on the dash. Have you checked for refrigerant leaks? Sometimes a small leak can cause the compressor to fail. It's a cheaper thing to rule out before you go chasing expensive control units.

Well, in my case, they ran diagnostics and couldn't find any leaks. They suspected the control unit right away, especially with the error code. And yes, the warning light was a big clue. It's definitely worth getting a second opinion, but if the system isn't even trying to engage, the control unit is a likely culprit. A refrigerant leak usually just leads to poor cooling, not a complete shutdown. Get it checked over by someone who knows their stuff, and be prepared for a hefty bill, unfortunately.

Took it to the shop, and you were spot on. They replaced the AC control unit, and now it's blowing cold air again. The whole thing cost me around 980€, which is a punch in the gut, but at least it's fixed. Thanks for the help!
