Seat Cordoba brake light issue

I'm a bit stressed! My 2000 Seat Cordoba diesel has started throwing up error messages. The brake lights aren't working properly, and there's an error stored in the memory, plus a warning on the display. I suspect it might be the brake light switch, maybe I damaged it when I was messing around under the dash. Anyone else had this? Is it a big vehicle safety issue, or am I panicking over nothing?

Sounds like the brake light switch to me. I had something similar happen on my Cordoba, though I can't remember the year. Did the same thing – error light, no brake lights sometimes. It's a pain, especially regarding vehicle safety!

Yeah, the tail lights went out sometimes, which is scary! The switch is near the brake pedal. Honestly, if you're not confident, I'd say get it checked by a workshop. Brake system stuff is important. I'm not an expert on cars, but it sounds like a switch replacement might be needed!

Interesting! Where is the switch located? Is it easy to get to? I'm not exactly a mechanic, but I'm willing to give it a shot if it's straightforward. And were your tail lights affected too?

I fixed it! I hadn't pushed the switch in far enough when I reconnected it. All working now, and no cost. Thanks for the advice!
