Seat Cordoba Diesel Cold Start Problem

My 2001 Seat Cordoba with a diesel engine is giving me grief. I'm experiencing poor engine running during cold starts, an error stored in the memory, and increased fuel consumption. I suspect a defective electric auxiliary heater, but I wanted to get a second opinion before I start ripping things apart. Could this be a PTC heater problem related to temperature control and the heating system?

I had a similar issue with my Cordoba, albeit some time ago. The symptoms you describe point towards the PTC heater. Have you checked the electrical connections to the heating element? An electrical fault there could also trigger the error.

Thanks for the quick response. When you say similar, do you mean the exact same symptoms? Did replacing the PTC heater resolve the poor running at cold start and higher fuel consumption for you?

Yes, those are the exact symptoms I experienced. Replacing the PTC heater assembly resolved the issue entirely. Given the age of the vehicle, it's a common failure point. I would recommend having a workshop perform a diagnostic check to confirm, but it sounds like the PTC heater is indeed the culprit.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I've booked it in with my local garage. They've quoted roughly 350€ for the replacement of the PTC heater. Fingers crossed it resolves the issue!
