The error code refers to a programming issue with the control unit. I am not sure which one. The battery seems fine. Is a software reset the only option, or could there be other causes for this?

If the onboard diagnostics specifically points to the control unit's programming being the issue, then a software malfunction is very likely. It's possible a corrupted software flash is the culprit. While rare, a faulty sensor could theoretically cause it, but based on your description, a software reset is the logical first step. Best to get it done at a workshop with the correct equipment.

The onboard diagnostics pointed to a software malfunction. A control unit software reset at a specialized workshop resolved the error and the electrical issues. Repair cost was 240€.

Sounds like a messy electrical problem! Does the error memory specify which control unit is throwing the code? Have you checked the battery voltage and ground connections? A low voltage situation can cause all sorts of weird software glitches in modern cars.
