Seat Cordoba diesel engine issues

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I've got a 2001 Seat Cordoba with a diesel engine. Lately, the preheating lamp doesn't switch off, the engine light is on, and it's kicking out smoke when I accelerate. Could this be a defective glow control unit? I'm also getting some engine misfire especially during cold start.

Sounds like a glow plug control unit issue alright. I had similar problems with my Cordoba, preheating lamp staying on and engine light coming on. Check the cable and plug connections to the control unit, might be a simple fix.

When you say 'cable and plug connections', where exactly should I be looking? Is it easy to get to? Don't want to mess anything up!

Yeah, sounds very similar. For me the engine light was on too and it was smoking like crazy on acceleration. It's worth checking the connections, but honestly, I'd get it to a workshop if you're not confident. Could be more than just a loose wire. Better safe than sorry!
