Seat Cordoba engine knock and poor performance

I'm getting increasingly frustrated with my Seat Cordoba. It's a 2006 model with a gasoline engine. Recently, the check engine light came on, and I've noticed higher fuel consumption and uneven idling. I suspect it might be a defective knock sensor causing engine knock. Could this be related to poor performance? I read somewhere that a defective cable or plug connection of the component could cause this. Any ideas?

That sounds very familiar. I had a similar issue with my Opel Astra a while back. The symptoms were almost identical: check engine light, rough idling, and terrible fuel consumption. It ended up being a faulty knock sensor as well. Have you checked the wiring and connections to the sensor? That was the culprit in my case.

Interesting! I suspected the knock sensor, but I didn't think about the wiring. How did you diagnose the wiring issue specifically? Was it visibly damaged, or did you have to use a multimeter?

In my case, there was no visible damage. The mechanic diagnosed it using a multimeter to check the continuity of the wires. It turned out there was a break in the cable. If you are not comfortable doing that yourself, I would recommend taking it to a workshop. They can diagnose the issue properly.

Thank you very much for your help. You were spot on. I took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be a defective knock sensor cable indeed. They replaced it, and the car runs smoothly now. The repair set me back 95€, but it was worth it to get rid of the poor performance and that annoying engine light.
