Seat Cordoba engine problems

Alright, I'm scratching my head over this one. My 2001 Seat Cordoba with a gasoline engine is acting up. The check engine light is on, and the engine power is noticeably reduced. It's got poor engine response, a whistling noise, and a loud hissing when accelerating. Sometimes the engine even stalls at idle, and fuel consumption has increased. I suspect it's related to the turbo system, maybe a boost pressure actuator fault. Could a defective electrical bypass valve be the culprit? I've checked some basic stuff, but I'm not sure where to go from here.

I am sorry to hear about the troubles you are experiencing with your Seat Cordoba. I believe I had a similar experience. Was it making a rather loud hissing sound when accelerating? I am but a novice when it comes to these things, but I hope I can be of assistance.

Yes, the hissing is quite noticeable, especially when accelerating. Did you also experience the engine stalling at idle? How did you eventually solve the issue?

Indeed, the hissing sound and the engine stalling at idle are familiar symptoms. My vehicle had the same symptoms, and it turned out that I had an actuator fault. It's part of the turbocharger system, controlling the boost. I would suggest visiting a workshop and having them check the turbo actuator and boost control system, as I had to do. If the actuator is faulty, it may need to be replaced.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. The electrical bypass valve was defective, which was causing the turbocharger to malfunction. The final repair cost was around 250€. Now it's running smoothly again!
