Seat Cordoba error codes and vehicle coding

My 2002 Seat Cordoba with a gasoline engine is throwing up all sorts of errors. The mileage is 97297 km. I'm getting a fault code, an error message on the infotainment system, and another one on the speedometer. My scan tool suggests it might be related to incorrect vehicle coding. Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas?

Whoa, sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although the malfunction indicator wasn't popping up on the speedometer, only on the infotainment. Did you use an OBD-II scan tool to pull the exact fault code? Knowing that helped me a lot when I was trying to figure out what was going on with mine. Turned out to be a weird sensor issue, but the symptoms were almost the same.

Interesting! You mention the fault code was key. Do you remember what the OBD-II code was in your case? I used a basic scan tool, and it just gave me a generic error related to 'system malfunction'. I suspect the coding because the engine diagnostics seem fine otherwise.

Unfortunately, I don't remember the exact fault code anymore, it was a while ago. But 'system malfunction' sounds like it could definitely be a coding issue. If the engine diagnostics check out, that strengthens the suspicion. Honestly, I'd say take it to a workshop. They'll have the proper tools to recode the ECU. Messing with that stuff without the right equipment can brick the whole thing.

Took it to a local shop, and you were spot on. The fault code pointed them straight to the ECU coding. They re-coded it, and the error is gone. Cost me 360€, but at least it's fixed. Thanks again for your help!
