Seat Cordoba fuel composition error

My 2005 Seat Cordoba with a gasoline engine is throwing an incorrect fuel composition error. The check engine light is on, and the engine stalls at idle occasionally. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection on the fuel composition sensor, causing it to misread the fuel. Any advice before I start tearing things apart?

That sounds awfully similar to what I experienced with my Cordoba. Has the fuel quality been questionable lately? I noticed rough idling and engine knock when I got fuel from a less reputable station. I would try to run a tank of premium fuel with a fuel additive. This could clear up any deposits in the combustion chamber. Have you checked the error code? That might give you a clue.

Interesting. I did fill up at a different station recently. The error code pointed toward 'incorrect fuel composition.' Did your error code say the same thing? Also, what fuel additive did you use, and where exactly is this fuel composition sensor located?

Yes, the error code was identical. While fuel additives can sometimes help, incorrect fuel composition usually indicates a sensor malfunction or wiring issue. Given that you suspect a defective connection, I suggest you take the car to a workshop with experience in dealing with these problems. It will likely save you time and potential headaches. They can properly diagnose the fault with specialized tools.

Took the Cordoba to the shop. They found a faulty connection on the fuel composition sensor, just as suspected. 95€ later, the light's off and it runs smooth. Thanks for the advice; it pointed me in the right direction.
