Seat Cordoba LMM Defect Suspected

I'm having some trouble with my 2000 Seat Cordoba with a gasoline engine. It has about 164972 km on it. I suspect the LMM (Mass Air Flow Meter) is defective. I'm experiencing higher fuel consumption, and the engine stalls at idle. Also, the check engine light is on, and there's some smoke when I accelerate. This points to sensor failure, right?

Sounds like a MAF sensor failure to me. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, though the smoke wasn't as bad. Have you tried checking the sensor's connection or cleaning it? Sometimes that can help, but if it's truly gone bad, you'll probably need a new one. Is the performance decline pretty noticeable?

Cleaning the sensor is something I haven't considered. What did you do exactly, and did it solve the engine stalling issue completely?

Yeah, cleaning it helped a bit temporarily on the Megane, but the engine stalling kept coming back. I used MAF sensor cleaner, sprayed it lightly, and let it dry completely before reinstalling. But honestly, it was a short-term fix. If your symptoms are that severe, I'd just bite the bullet and go to the workshop. Save yourself the headache.

Thanks for the input. I took it to the workshop, and it was indeed the LMM. Ended up costing me 365€, but at least the engine isn't stalling anymore.
