Seat Cordoba Rear Window Heating Problem

I'm hoping someone can help. My 2001 Seat Cordoba with a diesel engine is giving me trouble. The rear window heating has stopped working completely. The car has about 77215 km on it. I plugged it into a diagnostic tool, and it's showing an error related to the rear heating element. Also, the windshield defrost isn't working as well as it used to. I'm thinking it might be a relay or the heating element itself. Any ideas before I start taking things apart?

Rear window heating acting up, huh? Sounds familiar! I had a similar heating issue with my old Renault. Error codes were popping up, too. Have you checked the battery voltage? A weak battery can cause all sorts of strange electrical issues.

A weak battery, really? I wouldn't have guessed that. The car starts without a problem, though. How could a bad battery affect the rear window heater like that? And why would it impact the windshield defrost?

A weak battery can cause voltage drops, which can affect sensitive electronics, even if it starts the car. In my case, the Renault's computer was throwing codes and shutting down features randomly. If the battery is heavily discharged or defective like mine was, I strongly suggest getting it checked professionally before replacing any parts. It could save you time and money. It's best to take it to a workshop.

Just picked up the Seat from the garage. You nailed it – the battery was the culprit! It was so discharged that it caused all kinds of errors, including the rear window heating issue. Cost me 290€, but now everything works perfectly. Thanks for the assistance, I appreciate it!
