Seat Cordoba rough running and stalling

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. My 2003 Seat Cordoba with a gasoline engine is giving me grief. It's done 124706 km. Engine's running super rough, and it stalls at idle. Plus the check engine light is on and it's jerking when accelerating. Suspect it's something to do with the ignition system, maybe a dodgy cable or plug connection? Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

The 2003 Seat Cordoba was experiencing rough running, stalling at idle, and jerking during acceleration, with the check engine light on. The initial suspicion was an issue with the ignition system, possibly a faulty cable or plug connection. After consulting with others, it was suggested to check the ignition coil packs. Diagnostics confirmed a defective ignition coil and a problematic cable, which were replaced, resolving the issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Rough engine running and stalling on a Cordoba... sounds familiar! I had similar misfire issues with mine a while back. First thing I'd check is the ignition system. Have you had the coil packs checked? Could be coil failure. Is the check engine light flashing or solid?

Thanks for the quick reply! You mention coil packs... is there a specific one that usually goes, or is it just pot luck? And yeah, the check engine light is solid. Is there any way to check the coils myself before taking it to a mechanic?

Could be any of them really, but if the light's solid, a vehicle diagnostics tool should pinpoint the cylinder with the misfire. Honestly, unless you're comfortable with testing electrical components, I'd get it checked by a pro. Coil failure can cause all sorts of headaches. Might save you some time and potential further issues with the engine stalling.

Cheers for the help! Turned out you were spot on. Took it to a local guy, vehicle diagnostics pointed straight to a defective ignition coil. Cable to the coil was a bit dodgy too. New coil and a bit of wiring sorted it. Cost 95€ all in. Runs like a dream now, no more engine stalling or misfire!
