Thanks for the quick response! The error code points towards the oxygen sensor, but I'm hesitant to replace it without further investigation. How did you pinpoint the oxygen sensor on your Volvo? What kind of readings should I be looking for from the crankshaft sensor and ignition coils?

In my case, the Volvo's computer was also reporting an oxygen sensor issue. The mechanic used a diagnostic tool to monitor the sensor's voltage in real time. It was fluctuating erratically. Given your error code also points to the oxygen sensor, it's quite likely that's the culprit. However, an exhaust leak before the sensor can also cause it to report incorrect values. That's why I suggested checking for leaks first. As for the crankshaft sensor and ignition coils, those are harder to diagnose without proper equipment. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself, I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop for a thorough inspection. They can perform tests to rule out other potential causes and pinpoint the exact problem.

The workshop confirmed the suspicion. An exhaust leak caused the rough idle and oxygen sensor malfunction. They replaced the part, and the engine runs smoothly. The check engine light is off. The bill was 265€. Thanks for the help.

Uneven running on a gasoline engine can be tricky. I had a similar issue with my old Volvo, and it turned out to be a faulty oxygen sensor. The symptoms were almost identical: rough idle, check engine light, and jerking during acceleration. Did you check the sensor readings? Have you ruled out any issues with the crankshaft sensor or ignition coils? A failing timing belt could also cause similar problems, but that would usually be accompanied by other noises. What error code is the computer throwing?
